1/15/2009 @ 7:00 AM in Bedford County, Tennessee

Strong High Barometric Pressure has cleared the Sky and driven down the Humidity levels and it is COLD. 13 degrees at 7:00 AM and only going up to 24 degrees today. Tonight we can possibly see a Low of Zero and only back to 24 or 25 degrees on Friday. The ground should be frozen real good by Saturday night and the Sunday forecast may have some precipitation in it. But the Humidity has to go up a good bit before that can happen. The next two weeks are “typically” our coldest part of the Winter . On the plus side we will see some Sun for a couple of days and that helps. Not much going on around here weather wise just Cold and Clear, now here are the facts.

Temperature at 7:00 AM is 13 degrees after a low of 12 overnight. The Sun warms us if you can call it that to 24 degrees and only briefly then down to maybe Zero tonight. Friday maybe gets us up to 25 and a low Friday night of 6 degrees.

Barometer is 30.50″ and maybe still rising. Strong high pressure will stabilize our weather and keep things dry and Cold for a few days.

Humidity is 68%, low for early morning and the driest we have been in a while.

Wind is NW at 8 mph. The wind chills will make things difficult working outside especially as the Sun goes down, we could see speeds overnight of 10 to 15 mph, this will keep your furnace running and is even harder on your water pipes so even in a new well insulated house tonight I recommend letting your taps drip.

Sky is Clear and will remain so thru tomorrow.

The summary is simple, Clear and Cold. High of 25 today Low Zero tonight and Back up to 25 for Friday. The cold eases up some on Saturday but it’s Mid January in Tennessee so we got a ways to go before the Flowers bloom. Hang in there folks.

…BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES ARE HEADED FOR THE MID STATE…AND
COLD WEATHER SAFETY IS CRUCIAL.
A LARGE, FRIGID ARCTIC HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE SPREADING
ACROSS THE AREA TODAY AND TONIGHT AND WILL REMAIN THROUGH SATURDAY
MORNING. LOW TEMPERATURES WILL PLUNGE TO BETWEEN 0 AND 5 DEGREES
TONIGHT. SOME OF THE NORMALLY COLDER LOCATIONS COULD EVEN SEE
READINGS SLIP BELOW ZERO. WIND CHILL READINGS WILL BE WELL BELOW
ZERO TONIGHT AND TOMORROW MORNING, WITH THE COLDEST READINGS
FRIDAY MORNING EXPECTED TO BE 10 TO 15 DEGREES BELOW ZERO.
TEMPERATURES THIS COLD CAN POSE A NUMBER OF DANGERS.
MOST IMPORTANTLY IT CAN SERIOUSLY AFFECT YOUR HEALTH. EXTENDED
EXPOSURE TO BITTER COLD CAN CAUSE FROSTBITE OR HYPOTHERMIA. IF
POSSIBLE, STAY INDOORS. IF YOU HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE, LIMIT YOUR
TIME IN THE COLD AND BUNDLE UP WITH COAT, CAP, AND GLOVES.
CHECK ON THE ELDERLY TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE ADEQUATE HEAT, AND
BRING PETS INDOORS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
EXPOSED WATER PIPES WILL ALSO BE AT RISK OF BURSTING. HOWEVER, YOU
CAN REDUCE THE RISK BY INSULATING PIPES WITH DRY MATERIAL, OR
LEAVING A SMALL STEADY STREAM OF WATER RUNNING AT INDOOR FAUCETS.
LOCATE YOUR SHUT OFF VALVE, SO THAT YOU CAN TURN YOUR WATER OFF
QUICKLY IF YOUR PIPES DO BREAK.
BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING SPACE HEATERS, AND BE SURE SMOKE
DETECTORS ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. A MAN IN NEBRASKA
RECENTLY DIED WHEN HE PLACED A SPACE HEATER TOO CLOSE TO
COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS BEFORE GOING TO BED.
