1/27/2009 @ 7:00 AM in Bedford County, Tennessee

We are dodging the bullet this morning here in North West Bedford County, temperature is 32 degrees with light rain. We had .20″ of rain overnight but temperature was above freezing most of the time. However just to the immediate North ice is accumulating on exposed surfaces and conditions from Nashville and points North of there are serious. Our temps here should rise into the 40’s today so I don’t see any problems for travel for the time being. Low tonight should be above freezing and maybe even a brief period of Southerly winds but then returning Northwest by early Wednesday. Rain chances only go up after a brief lull early today. The ridge of slightly warmer air that has kept us above freezing is projected to move East and South late today and over night, this could turn our rain into snow. If this change occurs fast enough Snow is all we have to worry about. However there could be a brief period of freezing rain so we all need to keep a eye on what’s going on. Ice Storm is the single biggest wide area weather related emergency we have in Tennessee. The Satellite pictures from the Pacific area and Western USA are currently indicating a convergence of Wet warm air and Cold Wet air that could keep Snow chances in our Forecast for a few days. What a difference a few days can make. The best advice I can give you is keep up with current weather reports because things change almost hourly in these conditions. Now for our current facts.

Temperature at 7 AM is 32 degrees. High today of 46, maybe even warmer in some spots. Lows tonight near 38 before midnight. Early Wednesday could see decreasing temperatures.

Barometer is 30.25″ and falling. Pressure for the next 24 hours will fall into more unstable levels.

Humidity is 90% with rain present in the area. Moisture will be abundant for several days.

Wind currently NW at 2 mph. A brief period of Southwest wind as the ridge flattens out over us and then moves east. Returning to Northwest by morning on Wednesday.

Sky is Overcast and will remain so for the near future.

Forecast for today, Rain early with temperatures rising into 40’s. Rain tonight with temperatures above freezing most or all night. Temperatures falling to freezing levels at some point Wednesday. We are well positioned here for a round of Winter weather but timing is everything so be aware of changing conditions. To my friend in Irag, enjoy that 75 degrees today. Tom if you are in Nashville watch out for Ice. Karla it’s a good day to stay home. We are going to town early and then Benji and I are going to hunker down. Have a good day.
