4/11/2009 @ 7 AM in Bedford County, Tennessee

We had been warned way back in January that the Spring Storm Season was expected to be “Active” this year and I guess somebody got that one right for a change. Yesterday afternoon was one of those days that could end up being a Documentary on The Weather Channel someday. At 1:00PM there was a line of storms that stretched from the Kentucky Line all the way to Alabama and beyond, and almost every foot of it had a Tornado “Warning” box attached to it. Funnel clouds were seen in various parts of Shelbyville and I had one over my location that I reported to the NWS at 1:20 PM along with 1″Hail. I still have one of those Hail stones in my freezer. 20 Miles North of here in Murfreesboro they had Tornado’s on the ground that did a lot of damage in various parts of town and there are 2 Deaths reported with those storms. Surprisingly there was only .91″ of Rain with our Storm here but that all fell in about a 30 minute period of time. And even more surprising was that I only had a maximum wind speed recorded of 22 mph. We were really very fortunate here. The Storm Shelter program in Bedford County was activated and while commonly we see 6 or 8 people at most of the 10 locations and sometimes no one shows up. Well….yesterday I heard reports of 40 or more people at some of the locations. These are mostly in Church basements and some of those basements must have been crowded. On the plus side while it’s still relatively cloudy this morning I expect us to see Sun today even though it will be cooler. Easter Sunday looks Sunny and 70 degrees. Sunday night clouds return and Monday there could be another round of storms. We will be looking at that more on Monday morning. Now for the facts.

We had .91″ of Rain for the last 24 hours and almost every drop fell within a 30 minute period of time.
Temperature at 7 AM is 45 degrees. Headed for a cool 63 or there abouts today and 38 for the Low tonight. High on Sunday of 70 degrees.

Barometer is 30.00″ and Rising slowly. Look for a upward trend for the next 24 hours. Then falling again Sunday night. We had about 29.70″ during the storms yesterday.

Humidity is 80% this morning even with all the wet ground. The cooler westerly wind we have this morning is dry, so maybe we will dry up the grass in time for the Easter Egg Hunts,

Wind is West at 2 mph this morning. Look for a shift East and then Southeast by Sunday Night. Speeds will pick up and be gusty at times.

The Sky is mostly cloudy but Clearing some today. Mostly Sunny on Sunday. Clouds return on Sunday night.

The Summary for today and Sunday is Clearing and Cool on Saturday with a High of 63 degrees. Cool and 38 Saturday night then 70 degrees on Sunday. Have that NOAA weather radio on Sunday night and we will look at the Storm situation Monday morning. Hope you came through the Storms OK, Happy Easter and I’m looking to see you in Church on Sunday.
