We could have some intense weather today.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN 500 AM CDT TUE AUG 11 2009

BEDFORD-500 AM CDT TUE AUG 11 2009 THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR MIDDLE TENNESSEE..DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT A WEAK SURFACE FRONT WILL PASS THROUGH MIDDLE TENNESSEE TODAY AND TONIGHT, AND IS EXPECTED TO BRING THUNDERSTORMS TO THE AREA. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT A FEW OF THESE STORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE, WITH DAMAGING WIND AND LARGE HAIL BEING THE PRIMARY THREATS. IN ADDITION, TORRENTIAL RAINFALL FROM THUNDERSTORMS MAY ALSO PRODUCE BRIEF, MINOR FLOODING AND PONDING ON ROADWAYS.
SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGER ACTIVATION MAY BE NEEDED.

It will be a good day to stay close to home today. We have mostly clear sky early this morning but the Temperature was slightly better than 72 at 7 AM and is rising quickly with a Dew Point of 75 degrees making the air plenty thick. The Barometer is Falling as well so this could be a eventful day. This is also technically the last day of “Dog Days” but here in the South we historically have a few more weeks of sultry days left on the Calendar. I’m certain in fact that my dogs intend to lay around in the AC. Outdoors is slow except for a lot of Bunny Rabbits as has been the norm this Summer. So let’s look at the facts.

We did not report any Rain for this location in the last 24 hours. The City of Shelbyville did have a shower but that is 6 miles South of here.
Temperature is 72 degrees at 7AM and Rising to 90 or so depending on how quickly the Clouds fill in. Look for 68 to 70 tonight.

Barometer is 30.05″ and varying up or down a bit as our previous High Pressure area wobbles away and a Front approaches from the North West.

Humidity is 90% and will be a factor in our discomfort today. High Dew Points and strong Rain chances.

Wind is Calm early but at this very moment I see Northwest at 4 mph on my Instrument. Look for that to be the trend today, maybe gusty in the Showers and Storms.

Sky is Clear at 7 AM but has in the last 45 minutes begun to Cloud up. I just heard on the 2 Meter Amateur Repeater from Bedford County a gentleman commenting on observing some Thunder Heads rising in the Western sky. The Cumulonimbus Clouds will develop into strong Thunder Storm cells over the next several hours.

The Summary for Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 90. West northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. West northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. This stormy weather pattern will persist into Wednesday but will be winding down during the day on Wednesday. So watch the weather today and prepare to get wet. Have a good day.
