12/31/2009 @ 7AM in Bedford County, Tennessee

The last day of the year dawns Wet Cloudy and Mild. We’ll be seeing a end to most of the Rain by lunch time and be getting ready for the Colder temperatures even as we top out around 49 deg. today. Tonight Colder and maybe flurries as we cool down to about 30 degrees. A Northwest wind shift will dramatically cool us down and New Years Day we only get up to the mid 30’s with much colder wind chill factors. The weekend and Monday are going to be extremely cold so for the second day in a row I’m warning folks to be ready for the frigid air. Outdoors here we’re wet and soggy since the ground isn’t frozen this morning. My little dog Missy doesn’t seem to mind the wet she’s happy it warmed up and she was ready for the full tour on the trail to the Barn. We finally took our own advice and with the worst of Winter clearly on our doorstep we started the Mower and warmed her up and then drained out the last remaining gas took the battery into the utility room in the house and we’ll trickle charge until March. That’s a big deal for me because I managed to find something to mow even until mid December. Surrendering to Winter for 3 months is depressing but April is on the 2010 Calendar, I checked just to be sure. Now for the facts.

We reported .40″ of rain this morning. That’s 58.45 inches total for the year 2009. That’s a lot of Rain. We also had 9.25 inches of Snow and we got 7 of those in one big shot on March 1.

Temperature at 7 AM was 40 deg. Look for 49 maybe but that is the last 40’s anything for a few days.

Barometer is 29.90″ and Falling but should steady up in a few hours. Then a big Rise as Cold High Pressure takes over.

Humidity is 95% but when the wind shifts we’ll see more dry if colder air.

Wind is East to Southeast at 3 mph early. Look for Northwest and cold and gusty this evening.

Sky is Cloudy. Maybe some Sun peaks in on New Years Day in the afternoon.

The Summary, Today: A 40 percent chance of rain, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 49. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest. Tonight: A slight chance of rain and snow before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 30. North northwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.New Year’s Day: Scattered flurries before noon. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 38. North northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

That Snow won’t amount to much but the big story is the Cold. Stay safe tonight, Happy New Year.
