1/5/2010 @ 7AM in Bedford County, Tennessee

Sunny but Cold after a brief dip to 8 degrees overnight. It’s 11 deg. now and headed all the way to 29 for a High. The Wind Chill will be 20 however. Not as Cold tonight with a 14 deg. Low. Wednesday we sneak up to the Freezing mark just before things get interesting. We have a anticipated Wind Shift late day on Wednesday to the South and then the system approaching from the Northwest arrives. This gives us a couple of things we’re usually lacking around here when folks are wanting Snow. We will have moisture and we will have already Frozen ground with a good supply of Cold air in place in advance of the event. This will thankfully mean less ice on the roads and not much chance for icing on Power Lines but when it starts Snowing the snow will accumulate quickly so be ready. Latest estimates are 2 to 4 inches but that’s just a computer generated estimate. Now having said all that watch us not get any! The outdoors this morning was Frozen as expected but maybe we are getting more acclimated because it didn’t feel to bad. But the wind hadn’t cranked up yet. We did find a couple of Red Birds guarding the feeder and a lot of hulls laying around. Benji didn’t want to trek so I let him stay home but Missy was up for the trip. She’s sleeping now however. My old pickup didn’t want to start yesterday after sitting for a few days but she finally came to life. I need to start Old Blue everyday in this Cold I guess. She’s old but she was my Dad’s and I feel close to him when me and Blue are trucking down the road. Now I’m sure we’ll be all about the Snow tomorrow but for today here are the facts.

We had a few spits of Snow yesterday but we’re not reporting any precip. for the last 24 hours.
Temp.10deg. and life goes on in the deep freeze. Look for 29 deg. for our High. We hit 32 or maybe a bit more briefly on Wednesday.

Bar.30.35″ and that’s up a bit from yesterday. Likely we have topped out. The needle may start to feel the approaching Front by tonight. It may drop quite a bit.

Hum.80% and that’s going to fall off in the Sunshine but upper air moisture is increasing as we will see a Southerly flow in the upper atmosphere. That will reach all the way to the ground by Wednesday night late.

Wind Calm but look Northwest at 5 mph today. That’s not much but at these temperatures it will be enough to hurt.

Sky Clear this morning but Clouds will be slowly on the increase this evening. That may hold the Low tonight into at least double digits.

The Summary, Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 29. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 14. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 33. North northwest wind around 5 mph. Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 22. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.

Stay warm but avoid the rush and get some groceries today. Fill up the old gas tank if you can.
